A piece of Poland in China: The first concert by Grzegorz Niemczuk
Grzegorz Niemczuk began his tournee around the country with an enthusiastically received concert at Xiamen University. – The hall was filled to the last seat and the audience had hugely enthusiastic reactions – almost like to a rock concert: shouts, applause… They let themselves be carried away by the music. After the first encore, they wanted more. This concert really gave me wings” – said Grzegorz Niemczuk.
The Polish pianist primarily performed works by Chopin, as well as compositions by Paderewski and Kilar. In the second part of the evening, he familiarised audiences with the figures of our composers and talked about a special anniversary – the centennial of our independence – celebrated this year. Our pianist performed some of the songs alongside the vice-dean of the university – Chen Shuhua, who after the performance, said that everyone in the crowd felt as if a part of Poland came here to them.
On the same day, the pianist also held a masterclass in the Central Conservatory of Music Gulangyu Piano School, close to Xiamen on the picturesque island of Gulangyu.
