Third edition of the “Festival Polish Circles of Art in China”

Artistic diversity of the highest degree

The grand opening of the 3rd edition of the Polish Circles of Art in China will take place on October 25th in Beijing. For over two months, Polish film screenings, video game industry presentations, exhibitions, concerts, as well as lectures and workshops from various art fields will take place in the largest Chinese cities.

The program of the 3rd edition of the Polish Circles of Art in China Festival reflects the diversity of Polish cinematography, showcasing both its contemporary accomplishments as well as well-know classic works, this year including documentaries and animations. Through festival efforts, two important Polish films will be screened for the first time in Asia: the Cannes awarded “Cold War” by Paweł Pawlikowski (in collaboration with the European Film Festival) and “Squadron 303”. One of the festival guests will be Maciej Zakościelny.

After last year’s success, the Polish gaming industry will once again present their accomplishments during the Polish Circles of Art in China Festival. Producers will exhibit their latest work on the most important platforms, while industry professionals will showcase their artistic, technological and design skills.

As part of the festival, the world famous pianist Grzegorz Niemczuk will perform a number of concerts.

The Polish Circles of Art in China Festival also means new artistic challenges. The Voice of the Wild Hunt will give their debut concert, performing the score to the world-famous video game made by CD PROJEKT. Super-band Circles of Art Orchestra will also perform, while the city of Changsha in the Hunan province will be home to the AMS Poster Gallery exhibition.

This year’s edition will include the following cities: Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai, Jinan, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Changsha. The event is promoted in national and local Chinese media, and Chinese artists and specialists in various fields will also take part in the festival.

Hunan First Normal University (Changsha)

Hunan First Normal University (HNFNU) was founded in 1903 with the name of Hunan Faculty of Education, which was among the only five normal academies in China. In 2008 it was upgraded to the status of a four-year undergraduate-level normal university with the current name. Basically offering bachelor’s degree programs in normal education, HNFNU combines pre-service cultivation and post training. Majors covering primary school courses are included in the system and therefore HNFNU is the only normal university which aims at developing top quality primary teachers. HNFNU covers an area of 90 ha, among which 420,000㎡ is the building area. The university owns modern teaching and research equipment and the library which collects more than 1,5 million paper books. Xiamen University (XMU), colloquially known as Xia Da (厦大), is a public university located at No. 422 Siming South Road in Xiamen (Fujian province), with strengths in economics and management, fine arts, law, chemistry, journalism, communication, and mathematics. Xia Da, established in 1921, was the first university in China founded by a member of the overseas Chinese diaspora – Tan Kah Kee. It is now a top-ranked university directly administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education and recognized as a Class A institution in the Double First Class University Plan, a government initiative to cultivate a group of elite Chinese universities into “world-class” institutions. With a four huge campuses, graduate school, 6 academic divisions consisting of 28 schools and colleges, and 14 research institutes, XMU boasts a total enrollment of nearly 40,000 full-time students (including 1,500 international students). As of September 2017, the university’s entering class is over 10,000 first-year students.

China Film Archive (Beijing)

The China Film Archive is a treasure-house of Chinese Film history. It offers both screenings and a reference library of films, at a price. China Film Archive (CFA), founded in 1958, has a history of over 50 years. Since its founding, CFA has been collecting film art archive materials. Collected archives are divided into two catalogues, one including film materials and the other written materials (such as scenarios, scripts, film synopses etc.), stills and film posters. The most precious materials in CFA’s collection are documentaries of important historical events, as well as historical photographs of the early times of the People’s Republic of China. CFA also preserves copies of many important films produced in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Screenings of Polish films will be held there.

Hunan Normal University (Changsha)

Hunan Normal University, founded in 1938, is a higher education institution in Changsha (Yuelu Qu, Changsha Shi, Hunan Sheng). The University is a national 211 Project university, one of the country’s 100 key universities in the 21st century that enjoy priority in obtaining national funds.
Consisting of five campuses, Hunan Normal University covers a total area of 1.78 km2, with one million square meters of floor space. The university is divided into 23 colleges, 3 teaching departments, 51 research institutions. The university offers 74 undergraduate programs, 147 master programs, and 55 Ph.D. programs. There are 10 postdoctoral scientific research stations, 13 State Training and Research Bases or Centers and 7 key laboratories. There are 1091 professors and associate professors at the University.
The library of the University has a collection of 3.4 million volumes, including 200,000 volumes of traditional thread binding books, and subscribes 4,700 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals. There are 12 academic periodicals published and distributed by the university. The university has its own publishing house called Hunan Normal University Press.

Changsha Concert Hall, opened to the public on 28th December 2015 , was designed to be one of the finest music halls in South and Central China.
